Falls Prevention

We would like to make you aware of the Vision and Falls Awareness campaign that's being organised in the North East and Yorkshire.

How Optical Practices can get involved and support the campaign:

  • Use the campaign social media toolkit to push out the public health messages throughout National Eye Health Week and beyond

  • Use the toolkit to populate optical practice newsletter

  • Display the College of Optometrists Falls Awareness posters in practice

  • Cover Falls Awareness and spectacle selection and uses in staff training sessions

  • Talk to patients about the Falls campaign

  • Provide advice on good lighting to improve the contrast on stairs (low energy daylight bulbs are available)

  • Refer or signpost people living with visual impairment for low vision and sensory support - this can be done via the local ECLOAdvise people to inform their GP if they have fallen (or offer a referral)
